Snailbeach mine ranks as one of the best surviving examples of a lead mining complex. It retains a remarkable concentration of ruined structures which preserve evidence for an evolving sequence of mining techniques from the late 18th century through to the 20th century and, together with earthworks and buried remains, illustrates the whole surface history of the industry during that period. Many of the structures survive particularly well and form a large group illustrating the mine’s general layout during its period of peak production in the 19th century Shropshire Caving and Mining Club will lead us on an underground walking trip around Landing Level and Perkins Level, along with exploration of the extensive surface remains.
