A walk around the Coniston Coppermines and an opportunity for newer members to meet up. Looking at the extensive remains of the copper mining works and explaining how they worked, who worked them and when. There will be plenty of opportunities for going underground, but that would be optional and only short / straightforward levels.
Those wanting to explore underground will need a helmet, headtorch, harness, cowstails and old waterproof clothing. If you need to borrow any equipment please contact Mark in advance.
PARKING & MEET POINT
Coniston Village will be very busy on Sunday 31 March so we have arranged parking up at the Bonser Mill. Drive up the valley (quite steep and a bit rough in places, but leave the Ferrari at home and drive slowly and it will be fine) and continue 100 yards beyond the old Youth Hostel (single story white building) and we will park on the right. Try to get there for close to 9.30am if you can. Call me on 07774 499589 if any problems on the day. Mark
